Oh no! The weeds are actually kind of pretty. Nintendo redesigned the weeds in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Some of the weeds are very clearly clover, cropped close to the grass. Some are flowering, and others have sprouted tall.
This is why you should pick your weeds. The last two go together. The loading screen takes forever — then multiply that by seven people visiting at once.
I also enjoy having a stash of weeds nearby at all times, in case I find a new recipe that incorporates them. Weeds can be repurposed into decorations, like a mossy rock, a succulent plant, or a hanging flower pot. Heck, you can even make medicine out of weeds.
Will you let them flourish on your island, or rip those roots straight from the ground? Weeds: Are they good or bad? Just getting started in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? For example:. New Horizons : First week walkthrough. How to make money fast. How to find and upgrade tools. How to increase inventory space.Through the last three weeks and in the time since New Horizons was releasedthe world has shifted, and we have found Animal Crossing to be a beautiful escape at best, and a dark psychological reflection at worst.
May you take it heart. Yesterday, I Googled, "chelsea boots animal crossing. That's the joke. Any time my friends come to my island, they steal my rare flowers and my fruit trees. What the shit, guys. I went to his museum—he had a modest collection, nothing major—and noticed he's caught fish in the years, and It dawned on me that my friend was some kind of evil-twinned Marty McFly, time-traveling through the annals of Animal Crossingamassing his fortune through interest from the bank of that poor unsuspecting bastard, Tom Nook.
You make the rules, not time. Time is malleable with a simple flick of the settings. There is no honor in this, but you have the power. Constantly complaining and bashing my bug net forces a villager to move out, just because I don't like them.
It is toxic. Nevertheless I will continue to do it. Even in the middle of these ruthless onslaughts of forcing well-meaning animals out of my town, I do feel bad. After they get sad when I hit them with the bug net or send a mean letter, it kills a little more of me. I fear what I will become to achieve perfection, and I fear that I am already too powerful to stop. In Animal CrossingI complain to Isabelle about the way my villagers talk and dress, all the damn time.
You heard me Greta, move out. Turnip prices? I call my time-traveling best friend. He skips ahead to Sunday. I jump in a seaside cargo plane, round-trip ticket to his island. Find Daisy Mae, alias Turnip Lady.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Wedding Season update and heart crystals guide
Players go on social media and often share and trade fruit say, oranges for my peaches and DIY recipes. But a New Horizons summer update that allows players to splash into the ocean unexpectedly left an exploit open for badly behaved visitors.
Should a visitor jump off the airport pier into the ocean, they can simply swim around any barricades. Shortly after the update, players active in trading communities realized the risk and got to work in finding solutions.
Others hope Nintendo will patch out the ability to dive off the pier entirely. Now, New Horizons players are grappling with how to address this behavior. Plenty of players — specifically, the ones active in the Stalk Market — have been scammed by players asking for fees to sell turnips. Sometimes, for example, a player will simply turn off their game once a visitor drops an entry fee, allowing the scammer to collect without having to deliver their wares.
New Horizons players have found solutions for such tactics. Other players create elaborate fencing on their islands, so visitors can be managed easily, without the risk of someone running off to do mischief.
Fencing is probably the most popular option, but the new airport pier exploit renders it useless, leaving some players worried about scammers on their islands. G invited me over to his island to take crime scene photos.
Of course, I obliged. His island is perfectly designed for visitors — at least, it was until the pier exploit. The airport pier opens to a paved street that flows into a large, fenced-off area for DIY trading. That makes it easy to fill in gaps with temporary fences when players come to visit, creating an open common area for the trading. This game has really attracted a lot of nice people and added a lot of positivity to the internet.
I just hate to have to fence things off, it just feels wrong because most people in ACNH are so nice.
10 Things I Hate About Animal Crossing: New Horizons
NintendoAmerica animalcrossing this needs to be fixed. ACNH Nintendo pic. During a challenging time, New Horizons has become a comforting spot for some players. I spoke to a few more players who said similar things: that it was surprising when something like this happened in the mostly good community. But when it did happen — when a player violated the trust — it was hurtful. But we all know there are parts of this game that are frustrating to play.
Tiny quality of life improvements that have been taken from granted in modern gaming are left out of this game. Why, Nintendo? As it stands, I find myself having trouble staying motivated to log in each day when I have to spend a significant portion of time crafting and re-crafting tools that break.HATE COMMENTS - Animal Crossing Fans
I pretty much only login these days to play the stalk market. I get why Nintendo insisted on going the Breath of the Wild route and having breakable tools in the game. In the old Animal Crossing games, the axe even got a chip in its blade and showed visual signs of wear. Breakable tools with no durability bar just sucks. Nintendo should at least give us the ability to use iron nuggets to repair our tools. Give us a decent durability degradation animation.
Make axe blades chip, shovels become rusted, nets get holes, make fishing poles look different. They should at least be able to be upgraded to the size of the main room. In previous games, I could section off parts of a room to create an open floor plan. Moving to an island to get away from it all is great, but it is also lacking features previous games had.
I want to develop my island into a bustling little vacation resort with lots of shops and things to do. Unfortunately, Nintendo streamlined away a lot of the fun parts of the game. The hair salon could be like the Able Sisters and offer new exclusive hair styles.
Kicks could set up shop and offer a wider range of shoes, bags, and accessories. We already know the cafe might be coming in an update, since some villagers leaked it. Bring back Redd and the art assessment and forgery mini-game.
It kind of defeats the purpose of seeing who you get as starting villagers when you know their personality is pre-destined. My starting villagers are Biff and Canberra. The first Animal Crossing: New Horizons seasonal event is frustrating fans with frequently found festive eggs.
As a series, Animal Crossing is generally about playing the game at one's own pace and establishing a routine. In New Horizonsthat means talking to Villagers, harvesting materials, crafting furniture, upgrading buildings, and more.
New Horizons released at the perfect time, allowing players to relax and perfect their personal virtual space as the global coronavirus pandemic keeps people around the world trapped indoors. Bunny Day interrupted that relaxing routine for many Animal Crossing fanshowever. As part of the event, players find Easter-style eggs when conducting normal material-gathering.
These eggs can then be used to craft special, festive furniture items. The rate at which these eggs appear, however - as well as the length of the event - has caused many in the community to be annoyed.
But in previous games, holidays like Bunny Day only lasted for a single, hour period. That's a whole lot of days to be catching, chopping, shooting down, mining, and digging up eggs.
As Reddit user WurstWhip explained, the event is making it feel like players are being punished for not focusing on egg-based projects, as finding eggs when looking for something else just wastes tool durability. Another Reddit user said they felt the ratio of eggs to other materials is too high, leading to disappointment when hunting for more universally useful items. If Bunny Day were actually confined to a single day, fans likely wouldn't be so angered.
Granted, not all New Horizons players are upset: Some on Reddit said they find the event's furniture cute and a nice change of pace from normal Animal Crossing fare. But the majority of posts about the event on social media seem to be negative. As it stands, Bunny Day causing a big interruption to players' normal Animal Crossing routines. There he was: Pietro, the smug clown. Infamous among Animal Crossing fansthe colorful sheep is public enemy number one when it comes to hated villagers. Over her shoulder, her year-old mom was watching her play — the idyllic life simulator had become a bonding glue between the two women in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. And so Katie was guilted into accepting the jester onto her island.
It was a reluctant concession. That, she says, was the moment she started warming up to the rainbow-colored sheep. She started giving him gifts, ultimately noticing that no matter what happened, Pietro was always positive and nice to her. Before long, she started to actually love the little guy. Animal Crossing fans have strong feelings about certain villagers — popular ones can go for millions of bellsbut disliked characters get called ugly, or worse, get harassed.
Pietro falls into the latter camp. Early memes about the jokester saw people trapping the poor sheep in a hole and then pretending it was his grave. Part of it is the culture, judging from my conversations with dozens of Pietro devotees. Pop culture in the West also loves to position clowns as evil or grotesque, rather than what they are supposed to be, a source of joy. Many of them, like Katie, received Pietro as their first campsite villager.
New Horizons forces players to accept initial campers onto their population no matter what, and while you can go on to kick these animals out, you still have to let them roam about for at least a few days.
But the negative stigma has also helped pump some lifeblood into a broader Pietro reclamation effort, where fans embrace the flashy clown as visibly as possible. One player I spoke to, Callie, says she spent 2 million bells, in addition to some Nook Miles tickets, to purchase Pietro. And once Pietro is on an island, many fans go on to build him shrines or dedicated areas. New Horizons player Laura, for example, has an island with a medieval theme — some of her villagers include Knox and Sterling, chickens who are dressed up as knights.
And perfecting the look means having a court jester, of course.
