This keeps the swing set from tipping over while in use, helping to prevent any serious injury from the swing set falling on someone.

Before anchoring a swing set, you need to compare the different methods available for securing the swing set to the ground in your backyard, and then choose the option that works best.

In the article below, Method 1 describes how to use anchors to secure a swing set, while Method 2 talks about how to use concrete to make sure a swing set is properly secured to the ground. Using ground anchors represents an easy way to secure your swing set to the ground. When using ground anchors, you have a choice of two options: a one-piece or a two-piece anchor set.

The section below outlines the steps necessary to complete this process. Step 1: Position the swing set. Start by positioning the swing set where you want it.

Mark the position of each leg by hammering a wooden spike into the ground in one of two areas, depending on what type of anchor you plan on using. For one-piece ground anchors, position the wooden spikes just in front of each leg. For a two-piece ground anchor, insert the spikes into the ground directly underneath where each leg should sit. Step 2: Insert the anchors. Remove the wooden spikes and insert the metal anchors into the ground in the marked location. Use a metal bar to rotate the anchor into the ground, trying to keep each anchor vertical during the process.

Step 3: Attach the anchors. Once the anchors are deep enough into the ground, you need to attach the legs of the swing set to its corresponding anchor. The steps needed to attach the anchors correspond to the type of anchor system you are using, including:.

For a metal swing set, use a drill bit to drill a hole in the leg first. Some metal swing sets come with holes already pre-drilled into each leg. Once affixed to the bottom of the leg, the attachment should fit over the top of the ground anchor.

Once placed over the ground anchor, insert a bolt to secure the leg in place. Step 4: Cover the anchors. Finally, cover the area around the swing set to provide a cushion while playing, as well as to cover the ground anchors.

You can cover the area using either 9 inches of wood mulch or 12 inches of fine sand or gravel.

How to Anchor a Swing Set Properly: Don’t Miss This Crucial Step

Using concrete, you can secure your swing set legs into the ground where you place it. This added stability ensures that the swing set remains securely in place. The following section describes the process for using concrete to secure the legs of your swing set. Step 1: Mark the leg positions.

Learn more When installing any swing set, you should anchor the equipment into the ground to prevent it from flipping over while in use. Concrete anchors are the most secure. Fortunately, whichever method you use, anchoring a swing set is a relatively straightforward process. Warning : Adequate ground covering is important, especially around the base of each anchored leg, since it could cushion the impact if a child accidentally falls into the area while playing.

If you want to anchor a swing set so it won't flip over, start by digging holes at each of the anchor points where the swing's legs touch the ground. Once the holes are about 22 inches deep and 16 inches in diameter, fix your anchor to the bottom of each leg and pour concrete into each hole. Then, carefully position the swing set over each filled anchoring hole and press the bottom of each anchor plate into the wet concrete.

After about 24 hours, the concrete will be fully hardened and dry, so you can start to cover the area with a soft layer of the previously removed soil, a little wood mulch, or even fine sand.

See All Buying Options. These really hold well into the ground. The other "Chain" style really don't hold down a swingset. These if you take your time and do them right. That Swingset is not moving on each swing from the kids.

These anchors are very easy to install. The only thing I would recommend is be careful how hard you hammer the anchors in. The shaft got stuck inside the anchor a few times and it can become frustrating trying to free them when the are underground.

Besides that, nice product that does what it is supposed to. I passed final inspection for my shed using these. So far, so good! I purchased all of the more "heavy duty" grade supplies for my daughter's swing set because I wanted it to be durable enough that an adult could sit on a swing and play with her if we so chose to do so. I am really glad I spent the extra money as they will last forever! I also intend to open a daycare and believe the "heavy duty" option is the best for a toy that will be used and loved every day for a long time!

I bought this swing hangers because I read on a separate webpage that these would work to install in a wood if you didn't have an exposed beam or swing set. I am trying to hang a toddler swing on my porch. These require you to screw completely thru the wood and attach a bolt to the other side. That will not work for me as I cannot screw thru my porch roof. However, if you have a swing set to attach these to, they appear to be good quality. We used one for many months with my grandson so I ordered another one so that I'll have two for my twin granddaughters.
